Shane Farrelly announced as the winner of the Multimedia Farm Safety Competition 2016
Shane was announced as the overall winner of the Multimedia Farm Safety Competition for Post Primary Schools at the Awards Ceremony in Dublin Castle on Wednesday April 27th 2016.
He was one of eleven finalists whose work was showcased on the day by the Health & Safety Authority.
Shane programmed a computer game using different coding languages . It’s a maze game where you play as a farmer being led by Captain Safety through his farm avoiding all of the dangers, to get back home. There are six levels which increase in difficulty as you progress, due to the addition of new dangers at every level. Shane’s aim was to raise awareness of safety on the farm and to effect change in the safety behaviour on family farms and in the wider farming community.
Shane attends BCS’s computer programming club which is run after school by Ms. Caroline Quinn.
Shane’s parents, English class and their teacher Ms. Quinn, travelled to Dublin Castle to celebrate this wonderful achievement. Their presence, enthusiasm and encouragement enriched the day for all. Shane has just completed his Junior Certificate Exams and is a very valued member of our school community and a wonderful role model to his peers.
